September has brought a busy and positive start to the new academic year at New You Hair Academy. Since returning on 2 September, learners have been settling into their courses and getting straight into practical work. Washing, blow-drying, styling and creative nail-art activities have featured alongside our Dojo challenge, English activities and personal goals for the year ahead.

A Warm Welcome Back

Our opening weeks gave learners time to explore their courses, understand how the year will work and make their learning folders their own. Decorating folders brought a creative touch to the start of term and gave everyone something personal to begin building on. It has been lovely to see learners settled and enjoying their learning.

Hands-on Hairdressing

There has been plenty of activity at the salon stations, with learners practising on training heads and working with support from staff. September's sessions have included washing hair at the basins, sectioning, blow-drying and styling. Working through these steps gives learners time to handle the tools, repeat techniques and connect their theory learning with practical tasks.

A Creative Finishing Touch

Styling work has also given learners room to try out their ideas. One finished look on a training head combined a pinned-up style, loose curls and a pink tiara. Details like these show how a hairstyle can come together as a complete look, with the finishing touches becoming part of the design.

The Dojo Challenge Is Under Way

Our ClassDojo points challenge has been part of the September welcome, bringing an extra sense of purpose and some friendly competition to the day. It gives us a way to recognise the everyday effort that matters: joining in, keeping going and making a positive contribution. We look forward to sharing how the challenge develops as the term continues.

A Word a Day

Our Word of the Day activities have been putting dictionaries to work. Taking time to look up unfamiliar words and explore their meanings is a simple way to bring English into everyday learning. It also reminds us that asking questions and finding things out are valuable parts of learning, whatever the subject.

Creative Nail Art and Customer Care

Our nail-art activity brought creativity together with customer-service learning. Working from client briefs, learners considered the requested nail shape, colours and finish, sketched their ideas and practised designs on nail tips. The work included contrasting colours, French tips and spotted patterns. Learners also reviewed how their designs met the brief and identified something to improve. It was a practical way to explore how listening carefully to a client's wishes can guide a creative result.

Thinking About Next Steps

September's employability work has included reflecting on personal strengths and choosing skills to develop. Learners have been thinking about what they already do well, what they would like to improve and who can support them. These individual goals give the coming months a clear focus and create something to return to and reflect on as the year progresses.

Looking Ahead

As we move into October, our focus is on building on this positive start: continuing with learning, practising skills and supporting learners with their next steps. Families can keep up with day-to-day news and reminders through ClassDojo.

Thank you to our learners, families, staff and partner schools for helping us begin the year so positively. We are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the autumn term brings.
