July has brought a brilliant final month of the academic year at NYHA, combining creativity, practical learning and plenty of opportunities for our new cohort to build confidence and friendships. From World Cup inspired artwork to sports day, team building trips and hands on hairdressing, it has been a busy and enjoyable end to the year.

World Cup Creativity in the Salon

With the World Cup providing plenty of inspiration, learners explored their artistic flair and showed just how creative they can be. Our new cohort has a real enthusiasm for art, and their ideas are already helping to make the salon feel bright, welcoming and full of personality.

Learners designed their own mini football shirts, which have been displayed around the salon alongside their other artwork. The activity encouraged imagination, individual expression and pride in contributing to a shared learning environment.

Sports Day, Teamwork and a Little Competition

Our annual sports day was a real highlight. Learners and staff took part in a range of activities and races, followed by a picnic together. It was a relaxed and positive opportunity to enjoy some friendly competition, spend time outside the classroom and strengthen relationships across the group.

Harvey also joined the races and is still claiming that, in more than 20 years working in alternative provision, he has never been beaten by a student. We cannot confirm whether the record is quite as flawless as he suggests, but he certainly gave the races everything!

Most importantly, the day showed how well our two groups are beginning to come together. Learners supported one another, joined in and had the chance to build the trust and team spirit that will be so valuable when the new academic year begins in September.

Building Confidence at Clip ’n Climb

A visit to Clip ’n Climb offered another chance to try something different together. The experience encouraged learners to challenge themselves, support their peers and build confidence in a fun environment away from the classroom.

An End-of-Term Day at Drayton Manor

Our end of term visit to Drayton Manor gave learners and staff time to celebrate everything achieved this year. Shared experiences like this help strengthen positive relationships and provide a memorable, enjoyable way to bring the term to a close.

Learning from Hair Demonstrations

Back in the salon, Lisa delivered a series of practical hair demonstrations. Learners watched closely, asked questions and showed real interest in the techniques being shared before putting those skills into practice on their dolly heads.

The demonstrations supported careful observation and confidence with practical techniques. They were so engaging that even Harvey got involved with the hair work.

Looking Ahead to September

July has shown us how much promise there is within our new cohort. The two groups are settling well, bringing creativity and enthusiasm into the salon and developing positive relationships with one another.

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back in September and supporting learners as they continue to build their practical skills and ambitions. For now, we hope all our learners and families enjoy a well earned summer break.

Best wishes,
The New You Hair Academy Team
